Derek's Back!

I am happy to report that Derek Webb has (atleast temporarily) reunited with Caedmon's Call. Anyone who knows me well enough to know my middle name knows that I am an avid Caedmon's Call junkie. After all, was it not I (and Garrett) who invented Caedmon's Call pictionary? I think it was. Caedmon's Call definitely needs Derek Webb--he really is the glue of that band, AND Derek Webb definitely needs Caedmon's Call--they restrain his overly inventive tendencies. Honestly, the Lord has used Caedmon's Call's music to draw me closer to himself. I received Caedmon's new CD as a birthday gift and am thorougly enjoying it. I recommend it to all of you who wish to be in the very "center" of God's will--just kidding. The Lord has graced us with talented musicians who write and sing for the purpose of glorifying God, edifying the saints, and entertaining the people of God (which by the way, you sticks in the mud, is a good thing). Caedmon's Call (with Derek Webb) is one of the few bands who succeed at all three of these things. You can purchase this cd at www.caedmonscall.com

wahoo!!!! i never tire of listening to their lyrics, especially their 40 acres cd with the song "Thankful." "Cause we're all stillborn, dead in our transgressions and shackled up to the sins we hold so dear. So what part can I play in the work of redemption? I can't refuse...cause I am just like Lazerus (who was dead by the way) and I can't hear your voice...because I have NO CHOICE
So I am thankful, that I'm incapable of doin any good on my own."
Does it get any better than that?
(I don't have the lyrics in front of me so I missed a few words, but you get the jist!)
What's your favorite?

Jessy,
That is a good song. I think my favorite is Masquerade--the imagery is awesome, especially after driving from the desert into vegas on I-15 at night. It brings Hebrews 3:13 to a new light, "encourage one another day after day, as long as it is still called 'Today,' so that none of you will be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin."

Here's the lyrics

"Masquerade"

On an open stretch of freeway
Underneath the canvas clouds
The blackness after midnight
Swallowed everything around

But just up ahead on the open horizon
We caught the faintest glow
And as we drew near
it seemed so clear that the dark would have to go

In the center of the city
Comes the illusion of the day
When everything looks pretty
It's easy to think you've found the way
But it's all just a big masquerade

It was thirty-six months earlier
On that same old lonesome road
And that same old darkness lingered
Just before the lightning show

And the thunder cracked down
And His lightning conquered everything around
The dark had to flee

Now the light of the little town
Was as dark as the night compared to His light

In the center of the city
Comes the illusion of the day
When everything looks pretty
It's easy to think you've found the way
But it's all just a big masquerade

That's a good one, too! I can picture the hue of the distant lights of vegas from the plane at midnight now. It's like that fish lurking in the dark in 'Finding Nemo.' - the one with the little louring light hanging in front of his mouth.

Jimmy,

I would place "Thankful" at the top of my list, but "The Potter" (I think that's the name of it) would be a close second. The phrase, "put me on your spinn'in wheel surely captures my hearts desire.

I would also point out their remake of John Wesley's "Depth of Mercy," they did an excellent job with that awesome song!

Favorite Caedmon's tune:
tie between - "Somewhere North of Here" and "What you want"

Favorite Caedmon's Lyrics:
"I Boast No More" (ok, so that's technically Watts)... maybe "Table for two"

From the Phillips Family:
Kassie says "Shifting Sand" while Brian cannot choose between "Thankful" and "Awake My Soul" (but Dees is right, "Boast No More" is really good)

Ok, I have no clue what the name of the songs are because it was just played in my car CD player so, on this new CD I like #'s 1, 4 and 11. Thats all I have to say.

Jimmy,

As you know, I just acquired this new jewel of a cd from the my dearest band. I am torn between "Expectations" and the Africa song. They have very different emphasis, but are both awesome.

I'd probably, if I were forced, have to side with the Africa song because of how it consistently motivates me to Gospel faithfulness.

Jimmy,
So glad I found this conversation. I am currently enjoying "Expectations" and "There is a Reason."

Did anyone else find it strange the way they worded the return of Derek Webb on the back of the cd.
